Learning to Move Together

  • The Stretch Space 2188 York Ave V6K 3E7, Vancouver, BC Canada (map)

About This Event:

Learning to Move together: Explore the fundamentals of Contact Improvisation!

What is Contact Improvisation (C.I)?

Developed in the early 1970s, C.I is a form of dance where two or more people move together while maintaining physical contact, letting their shared weight and momentum guide the movement.

This beautiful practice teaches you how to communicate with another body in space through playful movement, consensual touch, and safe weight sharing. Through C.I, you'll build confidence in your body and movement on the dance floor, develop trust and comfort with contact, improve your body awareness and coordination, and enhance your listening skills—both physical and beyond.

In this workshop, we will learn and practice the foundational skills of C.I that you can take with you to any dance floor or social setting.
